Cherry blossom viewing party

Many Japanese go see cherry blossoms in the spring. We call that Hanami. Hana means any kind of flowers, but it refer to only cherry blossoms when we say about Hanami.

We can enjoy it from the late of March through the beginning of May. In this season, weather forecast say about cherry blossom front on TV.

Some people just walk around under cherry blossoms in the park or on the streets, others hold a party with friends, co-workers, or family. Currently, we enjoy not only viewing them but also eating and drinking. As for me, I went cherry blossoms viewing with my family in May. We ate fried noodles and grilled chickens, and also drink beer and sake. It seems like a picnic when we go see cherry blossoms at daytime, but it is also held at night. People enjoy it under the illuminated them.

I think blooming cherry blossoms makes Japanese realize coming spring so people go see cherry blossoms every year.

My family

I will introduce my family. There are four people in my family, my father, my mother, my younger brother, and me. They live in Iwate prefecture where place north of Japan. So we are living separate now.

My father is 58 years old, and office worker. He works hard for us, so I appreciate him. He will retire his company when he come to 60 years old, because of age-limit. He is a little stubborn and selfish, but recently he becomes to fill up. I think that due to his advancing years...(^^;) My mother is 56 years old, and home maker. She and I have many similalities...for example, looking, voice, and easygoing character. I take after my mother in every way! My younger brother is 17 years old, and high school student. He belong to foot ball club, and plays as a defender. His character is similer to my father. He is a little selfish, so sometimes we have a quarral. But usually we get along well(^^)

When I go back to my home, they welcome my home. Then I feel happy and having nice family.

Izakaya

I work part-time as a waitress at Izakaya. Are you familiar with Izakaya? It's Japanese-style pubs which are the most popular drinking place in Japan. I have started the job for about 2 years and I will continue the job until graduate. I serve dishes and drinks, also make coktails.

I like my job because meeting and talking with many people are enjoynable. Sometimes regular comes and then we talk about these days. making many kind of coktails are also fun.

There are also many kind of food, for example, cold tofu, green soybeans, sashimi, yakitori (grilled chicken), fried chicken, grilled fish, and so on. Though standers were Japanese food in the past, Western dishes such as pizzas are also becoming popular nowadays same reason as drinks. It means that we can choose the foods from the menu as we like.

And now I show how Japanese behave in Izakaya. First, they are served a rolled hot hand towel and otoshi which is like a small appetizer, after we have a seat or order some drink. Otoshi means that guests can wait without annoying at late serve. Generally, they have a glass of draft beer at the beginning. Second, they can choose and order a variety of snacks or dishes in the menu. They usually order twice or three times without order at the same time. Normally, they spend about 2 or 3 hours in there, and pay 3000 yen per person.

I recommend you to go izakaya if you come to Japan. You must be having a good time!

Nice to meet you (^▽^)/

My name is Miyako. I'm 20 years old, and senior. I major in linguistics at University of Yamanashi.
Do you know Yamanashi prefecture? Yamanashi is next to Tokyo. Mt.Fuji, the highest mountain in Japan, is in Yamanashi.
My hobby is listening to the music, especially J-pop. If you listen to J-pop, I recommend you to listen to YUKI and Aqua Times. They are my favorite Japanese singers.
Also, I like traveling! Actually, I visited Vietnam and Cambodia in this summer. I took this picture in Cambodia. Standing back row and second one from the right is me. In the last summer, I went to England and Scotland, however, I've never been to America so I really want to go there in several years. When I visit foreign country, I enjoy talking with people, eating foods, and taking pictures. What do you recommend me in America?
If you come to Japan, please tell me. I recommend nice place for you in Japan.
See you!
